How we grade this

For scraped rolls, Kun and Chuangui look at the finish first: how evenly the grey outer cork has been scraped, whether each roll is tight and straight, and whether length and diameter match the order. Scraping costs 15–20% of the bark's weight, so they also check that the rolls were not made from thin bark to save cost: they weigh rolls against a reference and snap one to see the thickness and the oily cut.

A clean, sweet and warming smell passes. Sour, musty or burnt smells do not. The laboratory confirms moisture and volatile oil.

Frequently asked questions about Scraped Long Rolls

Why do scraped rolls cost more than natural rolls?

Scraping removes the outer cork, which is 15–20% of the bark's weight, and it is hand work. Scraped forms are usually quoted 20–30% higher. It is a presentation choice; the oil still depends on the bark.

Are scraped rolls the same as Ceylon cinnamon quills?

No. They are Chinese cassia (Cinnamomum cassia) bark with the cork scraped off. Ceylon cinnamon is a different species, with thin, papery, multi-layered quills.

Who buys scraped long rolls?
