How we grade this

Long bark shows its quality piece by piece, so Kun and Chuangui check thickness at both ends, cracks and splits, and the natural grey-brown outer surface for mould spots or insect holes. They cut a strip to see the inner face: an oily, reddish cut means good oil, a pale, dry cut means thin or young bark. They also weigh a bundle against a reference, because thicker, oilier bark is heavier for the same size.

A sour or sulphur smell on snapped bark means the lot was fumigated, and it is set aside. Moisture and volatile oil are then confirmed by the laboratory, and origin comes from the supply records.

What is natural long bark used for?

Mostly cutting, grinding and extraction. It is the bark before it is scraped, rolled or cut, so buyers who cut to their own sizes start here.

Is spring or autumn bark better?

About 70% of Chinese cassia is stripped in spring (March–May), when the bark is thinner and wetter. Autumn bark (August–September) is thicker and oilier and trades about 15–20% higher. The harvest is stated on the offer.

How thick is the bark?

Tell us your minimum in millimetres. Thickness is the first grade signal: older trees give thicker, oilier bark, and young grafted trees give thinner bark.
